We are seeking a passionate and flexible secondary teacher to support a small group of three young students who are the main young cast working on a screen production being filmed in Christchurch.

About the Role
For seven weeks, you'll become part of a professional television production, working alongside producers, directors, cast and a crew of more than 50 people while supporting three young actors aged 12-16 to continue their education during filming.
You'll provide approximately 30 hours of tutoring per week, with a focus on English and Mathematics, while supporting other secondary subjects as required. Working from production trailers and base camps in Christchurch, you'll deliver learning programmes guided by the wishes of the students' schools and families to ensure they continue making meaningful academic progress throughout filming.
This is far from a traditional teaching role. Filming schedules can change due to weather, location requirements and production needs, meaning flexibility and adaptability are essential. You'll need to confidently adjust tutoring sessions around changing schedules while providing a calm and supportive learning environment for students balancing both education and acting commitments.
While you'll tutor for 30 hours each week, you may be required to be available on set for up to 50 hours during busier production periods. During this time will often be downtime for you while students are filming, rehearsing, or attending make-up and wardrobe, providing opportunities to read, relax, or simply enjoy the production environment (how cool!)
Working Tuesday to Saturday across a variety of Christchurch filming locations, no two days are likely to be the same. This is a unique opportunity to combine your passion for education with the excitement of a live film set.
ABOUT YOU
Flexibility is a must for this role. A willingness to travel between filming locations throughout Christchurch every couple of days and be flexible with times due to differing time tables each week
Strong knowledge of English, Mathematics, and the wider NZ Curriculum
Confidence delivering learning across a range of subjects as required on parent preference
Experience working with students aged 12-16 years (Years 9-11)
The ability to quickly build rapport quickly
Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to make learning engaging while adapting to individual student needs. You'll be able to read students well and know when to pivot your approach, recognising that they're balancing education alongside the demands of filming, rehearsing and long days on set.
Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to work independently
A flexible, solutions-focused mindset and the ability to adapt to changing schedules
Confidence communicating with parents, schools and other stakeholders
A genuine passion for helping students succeed in non-traditional learning environments
The ability to remain professional, proactive and approachable within a busy production environment
Eligibility requirements:
Current NZ teacher registration and experience teaching at secondary level
Teaching qualification at Level 7 or above (Secondary)
Full working rights or someone on a working holiday visa. For this role it is not eligible for the Accredited Employer Work Visa or Straight to Residency.
