We are working with a secondary school in Southland seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Department – Mathematics to join their leadership team from January 2027.

About the Role
As Head of Department, you will play a key role in leading the Mathematics curriculum, supporting teaching staff and creating an engaging, inclusive learning environment where students of all abilities can thrive.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to the wider school community, develop positive relationships with students and whānau, and help shape the ongoing success of the Mathematics department.
What We're Looking For
Strong experience teaching Mathematics within the New Zealand secondary education system.
Sound knowledge of NCEA requirements and a commitment to delivering a knowledge-rich curriculum.
Proven leadership experience or the ambition and capability to step into a departmental leadership position.
The ability to deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet diverse learning needs.
A genuine commitment to educational equity and improving student achievement.
A collaborative approach to leadership, mentoring and supporting colleagues.
An understanding of Te Ao Māori and a commitment to embedding Māori perspectives within teaching and learning.
A willingness to contribute to extracurricular activities and the wider school community.
Requirements
Current practising certificate issued by the New Zealand Teaching Council.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
Relevant teaching qualifications and secondary Mathematics teaching experience.
