The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). To teach in New Zealand, you must be NZQA-approved. Check if your qualification is recognised by the NZQA. To apply for this, you have to have been teaching in your home country for 2 consecutive years out of the last 5 years. You will require a current overseas police vet and some will require to complete a language proficiency test. A comprehensive list of the documentation requirements are listed on the NZ Teachers Council website, otherwise please liaise with your consultant who can help guide you.

EdPay (Education Payroll) is the government body that is responsible for paying all teachers and support staff within New Zealand schools. Once you have received a job offer, the payroll officer at the school will provide you with salary assessment forms to fill out. Education payroll will then assess your qualifications and experience, then match you with a step on the salary scale.

The process of applying for teacher registration can take between six and twelve weeks, depending on the complexity of your application.
