Year 7/8 permanent

Year 7/8 permanent

About the School

Start date: Term Two 2026 (with flexibility to start later or mid–Term 2)

Our client is a progressive, inclusive full primary school committed to developing confident, self‑managing, and future‑focused learners. The school places strong emphasis on relationships, culturally sustaining practice, and high‑quality teaching that positions ākonga at the centre of all decision-making.

With collaborative practice at its heart, the school fosters an environment where teachers feel supported, valued, and encouraged to explore innovative approaches. This is a place where professional growth is a priority and where your contributions will meaningfully shape the school community.

What Our Client Is Looking For

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Year 7/8 kaiako who thrives in a collaborative environment and is confident working within an Innovative Learning Environment (ILE).

The successful candidate will enjoy working alongside colleagues, communicating effectively, and contributing positively to a team‑teaching model that supports emerging adolescents as they navigate this transitional stage of learning and development.

You will bring an in‑depth understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum at the upper primary/intermediate level, including strengths‑based approaches, inquiry learning, and explicit teaching of key competencies. A commitment to fostering student agency, digital fluency, and culturally responsive practice will be essential.

This role includes supporting a diverse range of learners—including neurodiverse ākonga—so the ability to adapt, differentiate, and respond thoughtfully to individual needs is central to the position.

Values and Qualities We Look For

We are seeking a kaiako who:

  • Builds warm, genuine relationships with ākonga, whānau, and staff
  • Demonstrates culturally sustaining practice, especially in working with Māori and Pacific learners
  • Responds to behaviour calmly, consistently, and restoratively
  • Is reflective, open to feedback, and contributes to a collaborative team culture
  • Can pivot and adjust teaching approaches to meet varied needs across the Year 7/8 age group
  • Brings creativity, innovation, and positivity to their teaching
  • Supports student agency, emerging leadership, and readiness for secondary school

To Be Successful, We Are Looking for Teachers With:

  • A Level 7 teaching qualification in Primary or Intermediate education (or NZQA‑approved equivalent)
  • Experience teaching in a primary or intermediate context, ideally with Years 7/8
  • Current NZ Teacher Registration
  • Eligibility to work in Aotearoa New Zealand
  • Availability to start in Term Two 2026 (with flexibility for a later or mid‑term start)
