Outdoor Education specialist teacher
Are you an experienced outdoor education teacher looking for an opportunity to deliver learning outside the classroom all year round as part of an extended curriculum?
This coeducational secondary school in Waikato believes that learning experiences outside the classroom also contribute to the development of character and a sense of community and make extensive use of field trips, camping experiences and leadership development camps. Their belief is that students who have the opportunity to develop their talents and interests outside the classroom are more likely to engage positively in their learning.
The school promotes and enjoys a collaborative and supportive culture where there is a place for all students, staff and whanau. They have high aspirations for every learner and staff undergo regular PLD to meet the needs of our students and to keep up-to-date with changes in education.
We’re looking for a NZ registered teacher, who is first aid qualified and has previous coaching experience.
Our ideal candidate will
- have attended EONZ training courses
- experience working with NZ outdoor education requirements
- have organised local and regional trips
- be willing to teach topics outside for their comfort zone (with external qualified support) eg rock climbing, kayaking. We want more experience for kids than just tramping!
- be highly organised with strong admin skills (there is a lot of EOTC paperwork required for taking trips offsite)
You’ll be willing to ask for help, and have great attention to detail. In this role relationships are key, so you’ll engage positively with staff, students, parent volunteers, external providers and the community.
This is a permanent role, commencing in January 2026 (Term 1) and the school are accredited for immigration purposes. For further information or to make an application, please email Kristina.appleby@prosperoteaching.com
