Middle School Literacy Specialist
We're looking for a highly professional, experienced, NZ-registered teacher who is strength-based in their approach to all aspects of teaching and learning. Does this sound like you?
This diverse urban secondary school in South-West Christchurch is looking for a specialist literacy teacher, capable of accelerating literacy achievement by running targeted interventions for learners in Year 7 - 11, who are two or three years behind their peers in reading and/or writing.
You will need the skills to deliver explicit, direct instruction and run varied intervention groups, based on need. A knowledge of assessment tools related to the code and oral reading fluency are desirable. Proficiency in using The Code and following a Scope and Sequence would be required. Some additional training could be given, but the fundamentals of explicit teaching and structured literacy need to be understood and championed. You will have the support of their Literacy Team and SENCo as they seek to support learners to be successful in the mainstream.
